Breandán Fitzgerald Your Local Area Representative in West Kerry
West Kerry man Breandán Fitzgerald selected at South & West Kerry Constituency Convention to contest Local Elections 2014
8th November 2013
“Heading to Convention is always a daunting experience, but it is the only way that candidates should be selected. Last year we voted at the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis to introduce a “One Member, One Vote” system, and tonight every single member who travelled to Killorglin had a vote.
For some long standing members it was the first time that they ever had a vote in Candidate selection for elections. For me it is the best and only way to do it. I’m very honoured to have been selected by our members in the South and West Kerry Local Electoral Area.
I have received a vital endorsement from our members and it is the first step for us in a campaign to win a seat in the West Kerry area of the constituency. To me this is such an important election as it is my belief that West Kerry is completely under represented in Kerry County Council.
The people of West Kerry lost their democratic right to elect people to Údarás na Gaeltachta last year, this year the Boundary Committee got rid of the three seat Dingle Electoral Area by joining it to the Killorglin Electoral Area.
The new South and West Kerry Electoral Area is so vast that it will be very difficult to win a seat, but I will do my upmost to convince people to give me a chance so that West Kerry can have a stronger voice in the new Kerry County Council.”
